2. What is ICT?

ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology.

ICT refers to the technologies, devices, software and communication systems used to create, collect, store, process, retrieve, transmit and share information.

ICT combines computing and communication technologies to enable people and organisations to work with information and communicate efficiently.

Example:

When a student prepares a presentation on a computer, stores it digitally and shares it with a teacher through email or a learning platform, several ICT technologies are being used together.

3. Understanding Information, Communication and Technology

5. How an ICT System Works

A basic ICT system can be understood through the flow of data and information:

Facts and values that ICT systems collect, process, store and communicate.

4. Networks

Communication systems that connect devices and allow data to be exchanged.

Examples: LAN, Wi-Fi and the Internet.

5. People

Users, administrators, developers, teachers, students and other people who interact with ICT systems.

6. Procedures

Rules and processes that guide how ICT systems and information should be used.
